Erode (Tamil Nadu): A farmer was killed by a rogue elephant in the Bargur forest area of ​​Erode district on Tuesday and his body was recovered after about 15 hours, police officials said.

According to the police, 48-year-old Madhan, of Bejalatti forest area in Bargur forest range under Erode district forest range, who owned more than five or six cows and goats, had gone to the Ponnachiyamman temple area in the forest to graze his cattle. On Tuesday evening around 4 pm, a mischievous elephant that had wandered into the area attacked Madhan and crushed him to death on the spot.

The villagers informed the forest officials and Burgur police at around 6 pm, but due to lack of light in the area, both the police and forest personnel could not reach the spot and recover the body of deceased Madhan.

On Wednesday morning, a police team along with forest officials went to the spot and recovered the body. It has been sent to Anthiyur Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Bargur police have registered a case of death due to being crushed by an elephant and are investigating.
