New Delhi, AAP on Tuesday claimed that a "fake probe" had been ordered against its senior official Satyendar Jain in a corruption case related to installation of CCTV in the city "at the behest of the BJP" to stop Arvind's good work. Kejriwal. government.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved a vigilance department recommendation for a probe against jailed former Delhi minister Jain for allegedly accepting bribes to waive a fine imposed on a company for a delay in installing CCTV cameras in the city.

Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in May 2022 in connection with a money laundering case. He is currently in judicial custody.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar claimed at a press conference that another "fake probe" had been ordered "at the behest of the BJP" to stop the good work of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

It is a "laughable" allegation that a central government company had paid the bribe, she said, adding that the AAP is "waiting for the Center and the LG of Delhi to order an inquiry against it".

She claimed that the company was awarded the contract, as per procedure, to install 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras for the security of the people of Delhi. When the company started delaying work, Jain issued it a show-cause notice and warned it that he would impose a fine of Rs 16 million, Kakkar said.

"After this, the company installed all the cameras within the stipulated time and no fine was imposed," she said.

However, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the CCTV camera contract was awarded to the company but it was not involved in the installation work.

"In all likelihood, the Delhi government must have sought bribes from the company's suppliers. Also, it is a complaint that is being investigated. Priyanka Kakkar should wait for the investigation report to come out. If Jain is not involved, he will come clean," the BJP leader said.

Jain was the PWD minister and the nodal authority of the project to install 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras in Delhi at a cost of Rs 571 crore, officials said.

He resigned as minister in February 2023, months after his arrest in the money laundering case.
