The victory here is important for both BJP's V. Somanna, Lingayat, and Congress's S.P. Muddahanumegowda, Vokkaliga.

Since the seat is dominated by the Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities, the results are eagerly awaited as it will reveal how much both the communities have accepted the BJP and the JD.
alliance.

It will also set the mood for the Vokkaliga community, for which former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's family and Deputy CM and Congress state president D.K. Shivakumar has become involved in a bitter fight.

For 73-year-old Somanna, known for her organizational skills, it is a do-or-die choice. He is one of the top leaders of the Lingayat community who broke the shackles of caste politics by winning Vijayanagara and Govindarajanaga constituencies in Bengaluru dominated by Vokkaligas.

Former minister J.C. Somanna got the ticket amidst controversy after Madhuswamy lobbied for the ticket. A campaign was also launched against Somanna on the charge of being an outsider on this seat.

Somanna was asked by the party to contest against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from Varun assembly seat in the 2023 assembly elections. He also contested from Chamarajanagar assembly seat and lost both. Therefore victory here is very important for him.Congress candidate Muddahanumegowda, known for his friendly nature and organizational skills, has the support of Deputy CM Shivakumar. Before the Lok Sabha elections, Gowda returned to the Congress party from BJP. He joined BJ ahead of the 2023 assembly elections.

In 2019, Muddahanumegowda was asked to vacate his Lok Sabha seat for Congress-JD
Alliance candidate former PM H.D. Deve Gowda. He was elected MLA from the party twice and also held the post of Tumkur District Congress Party President.

Muddahanumegowda is attacking BJP candidate Somanna saying that he is an outsider and people should not vote for him.He is confident that the guarantee schemes, his personal connect and the leadership of CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar will bring votes for him.

Somanna has served as MLA five times and was elected as MLC twice. Yediyurappa brought him from Congress party to BJP. Some time ago, Somanna had distanced himself from Yediyurappa, but before the Lok Sabha elections, both the leaders reconciled again.

The constituency includes Chikkanayakanahalli, Tiptur, Turuvekere, Tumkur City, Tumkur Rural, Koratagere, Gubbi and Madhugiri assembly constituencies.Congress has won four seats. BJP and JD
Won two seats each. Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara represents the Koratagere constituency and Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna represents Madhugiri assembly constituency.

Home Minister Parameshwara himself had hinted that ministers who fail to ensure the victory of the candidates may lose their posts. Minister K.N. Rajanna has openly supported the creation of more Deputy CM posts in the state, angering Shivakumar. He also said that if all the Chief Ministers in the state are changed, then Home Minister Parmeshwar, who comes from the Dalit community, should be made the Chief Minister.

Shivakumar and Somanna are from Kanakapura area and have good relations.Sources said caste plays a major role in the constituency. The wave of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also visible. Since most of the district consists of dry land and social indicators are low, the poor masses, beneficiaries of guarantee schemes, are likely to support the Congress party. alliance with JD
I will be helpful to BJP here.
