This constituency was held by the undivided Shiv Sena for the last 15 years. However after its split, it is a fight between the two factions as Shiv Sena-UBT has nominated former minister Sanjay Deshmukh, who had started his campaign about six months ago when the Shinde faction was mulling whether Gawli would be the candidate. Whether to be re-nominated or not, who had won five times. Consecutive elections since 1999, or not.

Gawli was denied the ticket citing adverse poll survey reports and objections from within the party and from the BJP about his electoral prospects.

It is also a fight between the Kunbi and Deshmukh communities, both of whom play important roles in local politics. The Kunb community has around five lakh votes. Patil belongs to Kunbi community while Deshmukh belongs to Maratha community.

Banjara community also has a significant presence in the constituency.

Both the leaders will have to make extra efforts to win over voters from Teli, Mali, Dhangar and Banjara communities besides Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Patil is a successful businessman and runs a multi-state Godavari Urban Credit Co-op Society, while Deshmukh is a two-time MLA from the Digras assembly constituency.

The Shiv Sena is still trying to counter the opposition's charge of "importing" the candidate as the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has made it a contest between a "local and an outsider".However, the Shinde-led party argues that Yavatmal is the home of Patil's mother.

Angered by the ticket being cut, Gawli has now become active and is campaigning for Patil. However, he faces a tough challenge to convince his supporters to work with the same zeal and dedication for Patil.

Altogether 17 candidates are in the fray.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi's nomination was rejected, while Banjara community leader Haribhau Rathore is contesting on a BSP ticket and may eat into Deshmukh's votes.

The 'Deshmukh-Maratha-Kunbi' and Banjara votes in the region had in the past helped the undivided Shiv Sena-BJP alliance win the seat.Patil has been approaching voters with several development works, including the reconstruction of the Pohradevi temple, the biggest pilgrimage site of the Banjara community, at a cost of Rs 593 crore and Chief Minister Shinde's announcement to implement several measures to prevent farmer suicides. Is. Especially Yavatmal district.

On his part, Deshmukh is taking advantage of the "discomfort" in Shiv Sena and the "feud" with the BJP. Besides this, he is seeking votes for fast-tracking projects in agriculture, engineering and service sectors.

Yavatmal-Washim constituency is marked by the absence of a cotton specie economic zone despite being a major cotton producing region. Moreover, there are no large agro-processing units due to which there is lack of adequate jobs for youth and women. There is a shortage of staff in the super specialty hospital and on top of that, there is a delay in the completion of the Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway corridor.

The Yavatmal-Washim constituency is dominated by the BJP as it represents the Washim Karanja, Ralegaon and Yavatmal assembly constituencies, while the Shinde faction has MLAs in Digras and the Ajit Pawar faction in Pusad. BJP's active role in deciding the fate of Rajshree Patil is quite important.

During the 2019 elections, Gawli won the seat by securing 5,42,098 votes, followed by Congress candidate Manikrao Thackeray who secured 4,24,159 votes.

In the 2014 elections during the Narendra Modi wave, Gawli received 4,77,905 votes against Congress candidate Shivajirao Moghe who secured 3,84,089 votes.

Overall, 19,35,660 voters are eligible to exercise their vote on April 26.
