Addressing the 'National Startup Conference RASE 2024' at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar, the minister said the agriculture sector could be the main sector of startups in the region.

Giving the example of 'Aroma Mission', Dr Singh said that 'Purple Revolution' was born in small towns of Bhaderwah and Gulmarg and now it is being discussed across the country.

About 5,000 youth have adopted lavender cultivation as agricultural startups and are earning good income in this sector.

"Some youth working in the corporate sector have also left their jobs and turned to lavender cultivation. The success of the 'Aroma Mission' is attested to by the fact that the example of Jammu and Kashmir is now followed by Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh And Himachal Pradesh is also adopting it,” the minister said.

Dr Singh said that the startup movement in India has grown massively in the last decade and the credit for this mainly goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had given the call from the ramparts of India to 'Startup India Stand-up India'. Red Fort during his Independence Day address in 2015.

The Minister reminded that at that time, the number of startups in the country was just 350-400 and today, it has grown to 1.5 lakh and the country ranks third globally in the startup ecosystem.

As far as Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, according to Dr. Singh, it may be possible to explore areas for agricultural startups in the field of floriculture also, for which the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has The mission has been started.

The Minister referred to handicrafts, horticulture and textile startups as rich domains of Jammu and Kashmir and said that the Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to supporting startups in various sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
