He will also transfer the 17th installment of Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) worth over Rs 20,000 crore to about 9.6 crore farmers.

About Krishi Sakhi Convergence Program (KSCP)

KSCP is an ambitious initiative under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and aims to enhance the skills of rural women and enhance their contribution in agriculture-related occupations.

KSCP aims to bring about change in rural India through the empowerment of rural women as Krishi Sakhis by providing training and certification to Krishi Sakhis as para-extension workers.

Notably, the program is an extension of the Centre's ambitious 'Lakhpati Didi' initiative under which a roadmap has been created to mobilize 3 crore Lakhpati Didis.Krishi Sakhis will also have to undergo a certification course in line with the objectives of the Lakhpati Didi programme.

Krishi Sakhis as para-extension workers

Since rural women have prior experience in agriculture, the program will utilize their expertise and capacity. The Krishi Sakhi program will create a reliable community resource.

Krishi Sakhis will be trained for 56 days and will be taught about various aspects of farming including soil health, soil conservation practices, integrated farming systems, livestock management and more. They will also be informed about the benefits of organizing farmer field schools and agroecological practices.These Krishi Sakhis will also undergo refresher training with special focus on natural farming and soil health cards through DAY-NRLM agencies in coordination with MANAGE.

About the earnings of Krishi Sakhis

After the certification course, Krishi Sakhis will have to take a proficiency test. Those who qualify will be certified as para-extension workers, enabling them to perform duties under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at a fixed processing fee. Krishi Sakhi can earn an average of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 in a year.

To date, 34,000 Krishi Sakhis out of 70,000 have been certified as para-extension workers. The program is running in 12 states

Krishi Sakhi training program has been implemented in at least 12 states and will soon be expanded to other states also.In the first phase, states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya have been included.
