BENGALURU: The rivalry between World U20 long jump silver medalist Shaili Singh of Uttar Pradesh and Asian medalist Nayana James of Kerala is expected to grab the headlines at the Indian Grand Prix 1 one-day event at the Kanteerava Stadium here on Tuesday.

In the third edition of the Indian Open Jumps competition held in Bengaluru recently, 28-year-old Nayana won the gold medal with a personal best of 6.67 metres.

Shaili, eight years younger than Nayana, had to struggle for second place with a jump of 6.40 metres.

Star sprinter Hima Das will also return to action in Bengaluru on Tuesday after being given the green signal by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) disciplinary panel following last month's hearing.

Hima, 24, was provisionally suspended by NADA for three whereabouts failures in 12 months last year.Her name was included in the women's 200 meters race entry list for IGP 1 prepared by the Athletics Federation of India.

Two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor will also be seen in action, along with World Championship finalist javelin thrower Manu DP.

IGP 1 will be held across nine disciplines in both men's and women's categories.

The events for both men's and women's categories are 100 metres, 200 metres, 800 metres, 3000 steeplechase, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin throw.

There were 31 entries in the men's 100 meters race.Most of the runners are from Karnataka, while six runners from Odisha, including the talented Prasad Bhoi, have confirmed their participation. Punjab sprinter Gurkeerat Singh will also be seen in action.

Shankar Lal Swamy and Bal Kishan are the two leading long distance runners who will compete in the men's 3000 meters steeplechase.

Mohammad Afsal has also confirmed his entry in the men's 800m.

Odisha's international sprinter Sarbani Nanda will be the center of attraction in the women's 100m and 200m events.
