New Delhi [India], Amid the water crisis in the national capital, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday accused the AAP government of promoting tanker mafias and submitted evidence to Delhi Police regarding the prevalence of such elements.

Virendra Sachdeva told ANI after the police complaint, "Today, we have handed over evidence on this (tanker mafia) to Delhi Police. We also told the police that ever since Arvind Kejriwal came to power, there has been a rise in the number of tankers in Delhi. The mafia has become stronger."

This action of BJP comes after the Supreme Court on Tuesday interrogated the Delhi government regarding tanker mafias and wastage of water in the national capital.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena also blamed the AAP government for the water crisis and said the water shortage was caused by tanker mafias. However, the AAP government says the water crisis is mainly due to the BJP-ruled Haryana government releasing less water than what is allotted to Delhi.

Delhi Water Minister Atishi had earlier said that the Haryana government was releasing only 985 cusecs of water against Delhi's allotted share of 1,050 cusecs.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said that the demand for water has increased due to heat wave conditions.

“We are trying to get additional water from Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. I am sure a solution will be found soon.On tanker mafia, he said, "ADM and SDM have been ordered to take action if such a thing is happening."

The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the Delhi government over tanker mafia and wastage of water in the national capital and asked the AAP government to file an affidavit explaining the steps taken to stop wastage of water in the national capital.

A vacation bench of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Prasanna B Varale took strong exception to the tanker mafia in the national capital and asked the Delhi government as to what action it has taken against the tanker mafia. The bench also said that if the Delhi government cannot take any action against the tanker mafia, then it will ask the Delhi Police to take action against the tanker mafia.

The top court asked the Delhi government to file an affidavit on the steps taken to stop wastage of water and said that the affidavit can be filed today or tomorrow before the hearing. The court also postponed the hearing to June 13.

During the hearing, the apex court also expressed strong objection to the contradictory statements of Himachal Pradesh and asked the state official to be present in the court hearing tomorrow.
