Football Association of Serbia general secretary Jovan Surbatovic said the two federations could withdraw from the tournament if the continental governing body did not sanction them, ESPN reported.

"What happened is condemnable and we will ask UEFA to impose sanctions, even if it means not continuing the competition," Surbatovic told Serbia's state broadcaster RTS.

He said, "We will demand that UEFA punish both selection federations. We do not want to participate in that, but if UEFA does not punish them, we will think about how we proceed."

Erlind Sadiku, a journalist from Kosovo, had his media accreditation revoked by UEFA on Wednesday after he was accused of making a nationalist gesture towards Serbian supporters during a match against England in Gelsenkirchen. A statement released by UEFA read: "UEFA can confirm that the accreditation of a journalist at the UEFA Euro 2024 match between Serbia and England on 16 June 2024 has been revoked due to misconduct."

Following the display of a banner that "broadcasted a provocative message inappropriate for a sporting event" and the throwing of objects inside the stadium by their fans, the Serbian Football Association was penalized by UEFA. The development came after the Kosovo Football Federation complained to UEFA about "Serbian fans displaying political, chauvinistic and racist messages against Kosova" during the 1–0 defeat to England.

Surbatovic said, "We received punishment in individual cases and our fans were treated much better than others."

"A fan was punished for racist insults, and we do not want this to be attributed to others. We are Serb gentlemen, and our hearts are open."
