Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], The issue of alteration of marks in the English answer sheets of the PCS-J-2022 main examination, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), was due to a human error, due to negligence. , rather than any criminal conduct, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

According to an official statement from the Uttar Pradesh government, "The issue of alteration of marks in the English answer sheets of PCS-J-2022 main examination, conducted by UPPSC, was due to human error, negligence, more than any other cause." criminal misconduct. This human error did not compromise the confidentiality of any candidate."

"However, to eliminate the possibility of any further discrepancy or error and maintain confidence among the candidates, the Commission has decided to re-evaluate the answer sheets of all the candidates who appeared for the examination," he said.

It is worth mentioning that the UPPSC maintains a unique transparent system for displaying answer sheets to candidates, a practice not even followed by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Commission sources said that the inquiry committee formed by the Commission found that in the examination, only one page of the mark sheet packet for the English language paper (containing the details of marks of 25 candidates for the subject in issue) had the candidate code mistakenly pasted on another page of the same mark sheet (which also contains the marks details of 25 candidates for the subject).

Because of this, the candidate code on the second page was pasted on the first page, causing the marks of the candidates' English answer sheets to be swapped, resulting in incorrect English marks.

The Commission has decided that the re-evaluation of answer sheets will be completed by July 30 and thereafter appropriate action will be taken in the interest of the candidates in accordance with the norms.

According to sources, the task in question was carried out in the highly confidential section under the direction of the Section Officer, mainly by three women who have been doing this job for years and have extensive experience in it.

In particular, the main exam had a total of 6 exams, with 4 exams of 200 points each and 2 exams of 100 points each, making a total of 1000 points.

The quiz in which the error occurred due to human error scored only 100 points. To avoid errors of this kind in the future, the Commission is evaluating confidential tasks and introducing reforms.

It is noteworthy that the final selection result for PCS-J 2022 was announced within six and a half months, with 55 percent of the selected candidates being women.

Due to the error caused by negligence in the examination, a Section Officer, a Revision Officer and an Assistant Revision Officer directly responsible for the error have been suspended and departmental action is being taken against them.

Departmental action is also being taken against a retired Assistant Review Officer. In addition, disciplinary action is being taken against a deputy secretary for lax supervision and preparations are being made to take disciplinary action against the then controller of examinations.
