New Delhi [India], Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Delhi L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday participated in the program for plantation of saplings by officials and staff of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change under 'Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam'.

"We plant saplings, but they come with a black plastic cover. After plantation, it (the black plastic) is thrown into the jungles and then reaches the rivers and drains, suffocating them in the process. We have taken an initiative towards this. .. Now instead of plastic, small pots would be made from cow dung and saplings would be placed in them, then those saplings would be planted..." said Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena while addressing the event.

He further mentioned that a unit that has started producing saplings in small pots made of cow dung.

"Last year, the MCD started this work. A small unit was set up at Roshanara Bagh. They make small pots of cow dung containing saplings. The biggest benefit is that the correct use of cow dung will be started. The saplings they will automatically receive manure. With this initiative we will also save ourselves from the plastic menace,” said L-G Saxena.

L-G Saxena highlighted how the country has been facing extreme heat situation and the water table is deteriorating reducing the groundwater level.

"For the last one month, people of Delhi and the entire country have been facing scorching heat and have been forced to endure it. The temperature in Delhi has reached 52 degrees Celsius. The water table is going down day by day. This "It is alarming. For all of us, this shows that we are not doing justice to Mother Earth," said the LG of Delhi.

L-G Saxena urged people to take part in the plantation drive and said that anyone who plants a tree must take responsibility for it.

"Therefore, I appeal to everyone to be a part of this campaign (Ek Pedh Maa ke Naam) and plant a sapling. You don't need to end your campaign by just planting the sapling and clicking a photo with it You have to do it. "Take responsibility for that tree with the mindset that it will be your identity in the future, that when someone sits under its shadow, they will thank you," added the LG of Delhi.
