Doda/Jammu, The adversary across the border is using foreign mercenaries to create fear psychosis among people to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, police chief R R Swain said on Saturday.

Swain, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, said his force, along with other security agencies, is committed and determined to eliminate terrorism in the Union Territory.

Speaking to reporters in Doda after promoting seven special police officers (SPOs) as constables for their exemplary bravery during a recent anti-terror operation in Gandoh area of ​​the district, the police chief said the people are fully cooperating with the security agencies and it is a matter of time before terrorists begin to be eliminated.

Three foreign terrorists were killed in a shootout in Gandoh area of ​​Doda district on June 26. This was the first meeting in Gandoh in more than a decade.

Without naming Pakistan, Swain said: "Our adversary and enemy has raised a challenge, thinking that this is a border zone and they can take advantage of it by pressuring foreign terrorists to revive militancy by creating fear (among the people).

"They (foreign terrorists) are not in large numbers and we are fully determined to defeat them, as we have done in the past, with the help of other forces and the cooperation of the public," he said.

The DGP, who was accompanied by Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Vijay Kumar and ADGP (Jammu zone) Anand Jain, said foreign mercenaries do not belong to anyone and also do not come under the ambit of law.

"They are involved in mass killings, capturing sheep without paying money and their aim is to create fear and force the population to submit and create riots. But it cannot be achieved because the people are with us and we will fight against them," he said. The DGP said.

"The police and their security partners are fully determined and committed to defeat the terrorists with the active support of the village defense guards, SPOs and commoners. It is only a matter of time before they start being killed and to be eliminated." he added.

The DGP said, "The policy of fighting terrorists already exists and is old, but we want to take it to a different level, like when there is an act of bravery by police personnel to safeguard the public against terrorists, they will be honoured, which that will help them raise their morale.

He said the purpose of Saturday's function was to make the family, community and citizens proud of those working for the security of the nation and to congratulate the brave people.

On the deployment of the newly trained border jawans battalion, he said their duty is to collect intelligence, react quickly to any information about terrorists and coordinate with the people to create an atmosphere where anyone who tries to sneak into this side will be stopped or if they manage to enter In Indian territory he cannot think of returning safely.

"They will not be deployed at the front, but they will work in the villages and coordinate with the VDGs and SPOs (for better functioning of the anti-infiltration network)," he said.

Earlier, the DGP honored a total of 32 police officers, including two constables, for their crucial role in the recent encounter.

He also gave promotion letters to the SPOs who have now become officers of the police department.
