As 'Variety' reports, it is the follow-up to the absurdist anthology film 'Poor Things,' which earned an Academy Award for Best Actress for Emma Stone.

'Kinds of Kindness' received a 4.5-minute standing ovation, when the director and his cast, which included Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hon Chau and Joe Alwyn, walked off to applause.

According to 'Variety', the film tells three distinct stories, with the cast playing different roles in each. There were a few walkouts during the Kane premiere, most of them coming after the film's second chapter. Lanthimo abruptly left the screening and did not speak to the audience when the clapping stopped.

The film, like many of Lanthimos' avant-garde productions, is filled with extraneous plot twists as well as some outrageous moments such as Chau licking the sweat of his followers as part of a cult ritual, a man who becomes convinced that His wife is a pod person, some group sex, and of course, Stone's epic breakdancing that positively inspires reckless driving.

There are also culinary delights that are not for the faint of stomach, as well as a sprinkling of dismemberment and graphic violence that may upset the squeamish. Lanthimos' absurdist humor is mixed throughout, which the Cannes crowd thoroughly enjoyed.
