Speaking to ANI, Sarangi said, "The entire country knows that this was a dark period in the history of our country. 140 crore people of the country can never forget it. This was the work of the Congress."

President Draupadi Murmu, in her address on Thursday, described the imposition of Emergency in 1975 as the "biggest and darkest chapter" of a direct attack on the Constitution and said the country was victorious over unconstitutional forces.

Opposition leaders on Thursday dismissed the President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament as a "script given by the government" which was "full of lies" and also criticized the government over repeated mention of the 1975 Emergency. .

He said there was an "undeclared emergency" in the country and the Constitution was being attacked under the Modi government.

Reacting to the same, BJP MP Arun Govil said, "We cannot easily forget what happened in the past. Congress never tells what they did to the Constitution, but now only talks about saving the Constitution "
