Itanagar: The first batch of 40 election officials, including police personnel, were airlifted to four remote polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh's Kra Dad district to conduct voting for the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections on April 19 in the northeastern state. An official gave this information on Tuesday.

Polling officials along with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and vote verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) were airlifted to polling stations located in Pip-Sorang circle in the remote district bordering China on Monday, the official said.

"He was airlifted in two flights by a Mi-172 helicopter operated by Skyon Airways," Toko Babu, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), said on Tuesday.

He said more polling teams would be airlifted to remote polling stations where ROA communication is not conducive, as per the requirements of the respective District Election Officers (DEOs) of different districts."The polling teams sent by air on Monday will be stationed at Tali, the AD headquarters in the district, from where they will march on foot till Pip-Sorang circle," Babu said.

Tali assembly constituency, which falls under Arunachal West parliamentary seat, is one of the 10 assembly seats won unopposed. This time BJP's Jike Takku has won this seat unopposed.

Each polling team consists of an average of 10 persons, including a presidential officer, two polling officers, a polling attendant besides security personnel, the official said, adding that four polling stations in Pip-Sorang circle include Tedung, Pip Are. -Sorang, Kharsang and Korapu.

The OSD said the remaining polling stations in the state, where polling teams are required to march on foot, will start leaving for their respective polling stations from the respective district headquarters on April 17.There are 228 polling stations out of total 2,226 in the state which can be reached only through foot march. Of these, six polling stations require a two-day march on foot to reach, while polling officials at seven other booths have to march on foot for three days to reach their destination.

The northeastern state will see simultaneous voting for two Lok Sabha seats, West Parliamentary and East Parliamentary constituencies as well as 5 Assembly seats in the first phase on April 19.

There are a total of 60 assembly seats in the state, out of which BJP has won 1 seat unopposed.

A total of 8,92,694 voters, including 4,54,256 women, will decide the fate of 143 candidates contesting for 50 assembly seats and 14 candidates for two Lok Sabha seats.

A total of 11,130 polling officers have been deployed to conduct the voting process, while 6,874 EVMs will be used to conduct the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.Around 80 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in the northeastern state to manage law and order.

The counting of votes for the Assembly elections will take place on June 2 respectively, while the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will take place on June 4 respectively.
