Mumbai NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule has said that her party has urged the Election Commission to be more careful in allocating symbols to political teams and candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections to avoid confusion among voters. voters.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Monday, Sule said a delegation from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) met EC officials and asked them to address concerns over "confusing" symbols assigned during the elections. of the Lok Sabha held recently.

The NCP (SP) raised the issue of similar electoral symbols on EVMs such as the 'trumpet' and the 'man blowing the trumpet', the Lok Sabha member from Baramati said.

"These symbols had negative consequences for the party (in the LS polls). As a result, we urge the EC to be more careful in assigning symbols to parties and candidates in the upcoming assembly elections to avoid confusion and adverse impact" Sule said.

Assembly elections in Maharashtra are scheduled for October.

In July last year, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar led a rebellion against his uncle Sharad Pawar and reclaimed the 'clock' symbol as well as the name of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), citing the support of more than two thirds of the group's legislators. in the Maharashtra assembly.

The EC subsequently assigned the electoral symbol of 'man blowing trumpet' to the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP).

After the Lok Sabha poll results, Maharashtra NCP (SP) president Jayant Patil claimed the similarity between his party's electoral symbol and that of an independent candidate, who had the 'tutari' symbol ( trumpet), confused voters, resulting in his party's defeat of the candidate in the Satara parliamentary constituency.
