New Delhi: The Election Commission on Saturday condemned TMC leader Humayun Kabi for allegedly intimidating voters and rival party workers by making statements on religious grounds.

Responding to the show cause notice issued to him on the matter, Kabir defended himself and said that his comments were deliberately isolated to make it appear threatening and a violation of the model code of conduct.

While delivering a speech in Kazipara area of ​​Murshidba district in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader had threatened voters and workers of rival parties and the Election Commission believed that his remarks were meant to create religious division.

The election officer said he was convinced that he made the statement and thereby violated the provisions of the model code of conduct.

The Commission "strongly condemned" and condemned his comments, terming them as misconduct.
