Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Election Commission on Monday appointed Haris Kumar Gupta as the new Director General of Police of Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Additional Chief Electoral Officer M N Harendhira Prasad confirmed that the Election Commission has appointed Gupta as DGP in place of K Rajendranath Reddy.
Further, the Commission has directed that Gupta, a 1992 batch IPS officer, should assume charge immediately and submit a compliance report to this effect.
Earlier, the Election Commission had transferred Anantapur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police R N Ammi Reddy.
Ammi Reddy was transferred within 24 hours of the Election Commission appointing Rajendranath Reddy as DGP.
According to the Commission's order, no election duty should be assigned to the transferred officers until the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are over in the state.
Along with the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections will also be held in Andhra Pradesh on 13 May.
