Nagpur: An elderly couple from Nagpur was allegedly cheated by their 39-year-old son, who fraudulently sold their house and property, resulting in their displacement to an old age home, police said on Sunday.

Accused Abhijeet Nipane also introduced a woman as his mother to sell two plots in Mauza Gorewada for Rs 60 lakh. Besides, he illegally occupied the family residence in Zingabai Takli area, an official said.

According to officials, the incident occurred when retired health department official Meena Nipane (70) and her husband Muralidhar visited their younger son Aniket's residence in Goa during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Taking advantage of his absence, Abhijeet along with others carried out fraudulent sale of his properties, he said.

On their return to Nagpur on March 12, 2024, the elderly couple was denied entry into their own house by Abhijeet. Officials said it was then revealed that he had not only sold their property but also falsified legal documents, including a fake Aadhaar card.

The senior citizen couple lodged a complaint with the Mankapur police, following which a case was registered against Abhijeet and his associates under various sections of the Indian Justice Code, including fraud.
