Sukma, Eight Naxalites surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Sunday, four of whom had a total reward of Rs 5 lakh.

Citing frustration over atrocities committed by Maoists on tribals and frustration with the "inhumane" and "hollow" Maoist ideology, the Naxalites surrendered before police and senior Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, an official said.

He said, they were also impressed by the state government's Naxal eradication policy and Sukma Police's rehabilitation campaign 'Puna Narkom' (a word coined in the local Gondi dialect, meaning new dawn, new beginning).

He said the eight surrendered cadres include three women who were allegedly tasked with cutting roads, putting up Maoist pamphlets and posters, conducting recce of security personnel and collecting illegal levies for the Maoists.

Among those who surrendered was female cadre Vetti Maase (42) who was active as a member of Platoon no. The 24 Maoists were under the Malangir Area Committee and had a reward of Rs 2 lakh on them, the officer said.

Three other cadres, Sagar alias Deva Madkam (31), Podiyam Nande (30) and Sodhi Tulsi (32), had a reward of Rs 1 lakh each, he said.

He said that the surrendered Naxalites will get facilities as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government.
