Chennai: Bakrid, the festival of sacrifice, was celebrated with spiritual fervor across Tamil Nadu on Monday with Muslims offering special prayers to mark the festival.

People gathered in large numbers in mosques and open grounds and offered prayers and later distributed sweets to the public and gave alms to the poor.

The festival spirit increased the sale of meat and sweets in local markets and at many places, 'Kootu Qurbani' (offering of sacrifice by sharing the cost) was organized in congregations/publicly.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, Chief Minister MK Stalin, Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam greeted people and extended good wishes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
