Kolkata: Bengali film star Rituparna Sengupta was on Wednesday questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with its probe into ration distribution irregularities worth crores of rupees, officials said.

During the interrogation that lasted for over five hours, Sengupta was asked about his links with former Food and Supplies Minister Jyotiprio Mallick, who was arrested in the case, he said.

He said he was also asked whether any financial transactions took place between his office and the state food and supplies department when Malik was a minister.

"We have also verified some details, including transactions made through his bank accounts. He has submitted some documents, which will also be verified," an ED official said.

After questioning, Sengupta claimed that he had no connection with the alleged irregularities.

"I have cooperated with them the entire time. I have provided them with the necessary documents. I can't talk much about this case," she said while leaving the ED office.

The ED had asked the actress to appear before it on June 5, but since she was in the US, she had requested the agency to give another date.

In 2019, Sengupta was questioned by the ED in the Rose Valley chit-fund case.
