This police action took place in Kolaghat last Tuesday.

Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal say that after receiving the report from the district election officers, it will be sent to the commission's headquarters in New Delhi by Friday evening.

While the ECI has sought a detailed report on the matter, Adhikar has also filed a case before a single-judge bench of Justice J Sengupta of the Calcutta High Court on the same issue.

The late-night police action at the officer's rented residence assumed significance after Union Home Minister Amit Shah raised the issue at an election meeting in the state on May 22.

“The fear of defeat has demoralized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and led her to rampant misuse of the state police. Just heard that the state police conducted a late night raid at the rented residence of opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari. When Central agencies raided the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader, a huge amount of Rs 51 crore was recovered. But not even 25 paise was recovered during the police raid at the officer's house. Therefore, I am asking the Chief Minister to avoid misusing the state police. Otherwise the people of West Bengal will give you a befitting reply,” the Union Home Minister said while addressing an election rally in Kanthi Lok Sabha constituency in support of party candidate Soumend Adhikari on Wednesday afternoon.
