New Delhi [India], The Election Commission has censured former Calcutta High Court judge Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who is the BJP candidate, for his remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while addressing a public meeting held on May 15 in Haldia. The Commission has considered his comments as a violation of MCC provisions and the ECI advisory dated March 1, 2024. The commission said in its notice that it found Abhijit Gangopadhyay's comments inappropriate, indiscreet, beyond dignity in every sense and prima facie in violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct and sought a reply.As of May 20, the Commission has received a complaint dated May 16 from the All India Trinamool Congress alleging that during a public meeting in Haldia on May 15, you (Abhijit Gangopadhyay) made objectionable remarks against Mamata Banerjee. The president of the Trinamool Congress party in India is a candidate, the ECI said in its notice "Upon careful examination, the remarks have been found to be inappropriate, indiscreet, beyond dignity in every sense, in bad taste and prima facie."
