MUMBAI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked political parties to provide details about planes and helicopters being used for political campaigning, including their origin and destination and details of people on board.

The letter written by Tejas Samel, Deputy Election Officer of Mumbai Suburban District, dated April 12, states that such information will have to be given to the District Election Office three days before the journey.

The details should also include the construction of the aircraft/helicopter and the people traveling in them.

The letter states that this information is to be given under the Model Code of Conduct which is to be sent to the ECI.

Lok Sabha elections in the country will be held in five phases between April 1 and May 20.
