Thiruvananthapuram: Fake election ID cards allegedly used for organizational elections of the State Youth Congress in Kerala were raised by members of the ruling party in the Assembly on Friday as the Congress-led opposition focused attention on the Left government over issues affecting it. Accused of trying to mislead.

The issue of fake ID cards was raised during Question Hour when opposition members attacked the Left parties over alleged online communal propaganda in Vadakara constituency during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

As the Question Hour was progressing, CPI(M) leader and Varkala MLA V Joy raised a question regarding a case registered following allegations of using fake election ID cards during the Kerala State Youth Congress elections held last year.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister MB Rajesh, who was replying to questions submitted by the Chief Minister, told the House that a case was registered in this regard at the Museum police station in Thiruvananthapuram and two were arrested.

Rajesh said, "The Election Commission had also filed a complaint, based on which the Crime Branch is also investigating the matter."

He said the digital devices used in making fake election identity cards were also seized.

However, the opposition alleged that the minister and ruling MLAs were attempting to divert attention from the online communal campaign in Vatakara. They came to the well of the House, protesting against Minister and MLA Joy for speaking about the organizational elections of Youth Congress.
