Kolkata, The Election Commission has decided to install GPS location tracking systems in all vehicles used for voting purposes in West Bengal, an official said on Monday.

He said that information in this regard has been sent to the polling personnel.

"GPS tracking system will be used to monitor the movement of EVMs and other polling material from the Distribution/Dispersion Center and Receipt Center (DCRC) to the polling station a day before the election and ensure that there is no tampering while bringing They will be taken to the strong room after voting, the official said.

He said that the Election Commission has asked the administration to take prompt action if any discrepancy is found, besides interrogating the drivers of the vehicle concerned and the staff in-charge of EVMs.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Monday appointed Arnab Chatterjee, Joint Secretary, School Education Department, as Joint Chief Electoral Officer in the CEC.

An official order said Chatterjee had replaced Rahul Nath.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in the state will begin from April 19.
