An earthquake of 4.7 magnitude hit many parts of Pakistan including the capital Islamabad on Wednesday.

However, there is no news of any loss of life or property yet.

According to the National Seismological Monitoring Centre, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the south-eastern region of Afghanistan and at a depth of 98 kilometers, which was felt in various areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Malakand, North Waziristan, Parachinar, Lower... Dir, Hangu, Charsadda, and Swabi.

Pakistan often faces earthquakes because the country is located on the border of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Large parts of South Asia are seismically active as the Indian tectonic plate pushes northward into the Eurasian plate.

Earlier this month a 3.2 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Karachi.

On May 2, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake struck parts of the metropolis, including Gadap Town, Katohar and surrounding areas of Malir district.

On March 13, an earthquake of 5.3 magnitude occurred in various areas of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

Pakistan was hit by a deadly earthquake in 2005 when a 7.4 magnitude tremor killed more than 74,000 people.
