Thrissur: A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale hit parts of Thrissur and Palakkad districts on Saturday, official sources said.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said an earthquake of magnitude 3.0 was recorded in the area at 8.15 am today.

Thrissur district officials said the tremors were felt for four seconds. However, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The NCS, the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity in the country, posted on the X that the epicenter was at latitude 10.55 N and longitude 76.05 E, at a depth of seven kilometres.

Meanwhile, officials said tremors were felt in Kunnamkulam, Erumapetty and Pazhanji areas and parts of Palakkad district.

Officials from the state geology department and others have gone to the areas to study the phenomenon further.
