Dubai [UAE], the Dubai Road Naming Committee, the entity that designates the names of roads and streets in Dubai, launched the Street Designation Proposal platform under the supervision of Dubai Municipality.

The platform aims to enable public participation in proposing names for roads and streets in Dubai.

This is in line with the Committee's objectives of preserving the legacy of the past, promoting civilization, staying updated on the future development of the Emirate and highlighting its high-value achievements.

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Dubai Road Naming Committee, stated that the platform is part of the Integrated Committee's efforts and plans to promote community participation in submitting proposals for naming roads and streets in various areas of the Emirate.

This is in accordance with the approved classifications which aim to revive heritage names, highlight national identity and social and cultural characteristics that reflect the history, heritage, values, social and cultural richness of the emirate and consistency with future development and guidance.

Al Hajri said: "The new platform serves as a digital system that allows the public to suggest names for streets and roads in Dubai, taking into account a comprehensive method and specific criteria that reflect our identity and the interrelationship between the past, present and future. future of Dubai. It aims to revive valuable historical significance, heritage and urban monuments, in line with Dubai's world-leading position and reputation, further consolidating diverse areas of the Emirate in the minds of present and future generations."

Additionally, the committee has devised a method of proposing names based on specific classifications that will inspire the names of each area. These classifications include names linked to Arabic and Islamic design and architecture, along with names associated with Arabic art, culture, and poetic prosody.

It will also cover names of natural phenomena, local plants, trees, flowers and marine and wild plants, together with the names of sea and wild birds. In addition, it will also cover names related to environmental sustainability, boats, marine tools, fishing, winds and rain.

On the other hand, the classifications will also include names of squares, forts, ancient castles, archaeological sites, local and ancient jewelry, and names and descriptions of Arabian horses and camels. It will also include names of types of palm and date palms, names of agricultural and farming professions, as well as those inspired by industrial and craft professions and their tools, names of gemstones, and names related to modern inventions and technology.

Additionally, the committee has completed the naming of roads in the Al-Khawaneej 2 area in its testing phase, which included names inspired by local trees, plants and flowers, such as Ghaf Street, Ghaf being one of the types of most famous local trees. which will be between the first and second areas of Al-Khawaneej. Additionally, other street tree names like Sidr, Reehan, Faghi, Samer and Shareesh were also used.

The Dubai Road Naming Committee was established by Executive Council Resolution No. 35 of 2021 and is headed by the Director General of Dubai Municipality. It includes the Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the Executive Director of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, the Executive Director of the RTA Road and Traffic Agency and four experienced and knowledgeable representatives of the citizens of Dubai.
