New Delhi, Delhi University's Forensic Science students are likely to find their way to crime scenes as interns, and the varsity team plans to approach the Delhi Police to allow them to visit the spots along with investigators.

The DU Department of Anthropology has prepared a proposal that will be presented for approval before the university's Academic Council, which will meet on July 12.

The department will write a Letter of Recommendation (LOR) to the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) of the districts to help their students get exposure in the field, an official said.

The proposal seeks slight modifications to the curriculum of its Master of Forensic Science course for final semester students to include a visit to the crime scene through police stations.

"The final year students will, in a way, undertake internships under the Delhi Police to gain exposure when they visit crime scenes and see forensic evidence collection," the official said.

Giving more details about the proposal, another official said the students will be trained in a forensic science laboratory and will be asked to prepare a project report based on their courtroom exposure and the ethnography of the case.

Previously, students of the final semester of Master of Forensic Science managed to apply for permission to visit the crime scene, which is part of their curriculum, on their own, but the department now plans to formally write an LOR to the DCPs to allow your students visit. the crime scene and get real-life exposure of how forensic evidence is collected.

"We have not made any changes to the curriculum of the Master of Forensic Sciences. We have only proposed slight modifications to provide greater clarity in the course content and define the process through which final year students can receive training, prepare your project report and get exposure in the field," the official said.

As part of its plan, the university's anthropology department will also approach renowned lawyers to provide its students with case studies, the official said, adding that it will help them gain more experience.

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Delhi was founded in 1947 and the first batch of students was admitted a year later.
