Pune (Maharashtra) [India], Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday said that strict action will be taken against those behind the malicious intent of "ruining youth through drugs" and asserted that drug suppliers would be uprooted from all over Maharashtra. .

While talking to reporters, Shinde said, "To all the drug suppliers, structures closest to schools, colleges, pubs and other places that facilitate supply of drugs, I have given the direction of action against them."

He further added, "Those who ruin the youth through drugs, no one will be spared. We will put them behind bars. Not just from Pune, we will uproot them from entire Maharashtra."

Shinde's comments come amid outrage in the city of Pune over a viral bar video that showed minors doing drugs in the bar's bathroom during a late-night party.

Two days ago, Shinde had instructed the municipal and police commissioners of Thane and Mira-Bhainder to bulldoze all illegal drug-related constructions in the cities.

As per the Chief Minister's Office statement, CM Shinde on June 26 ordered strict action against illegal pubs and bars in the city to make Thane and Mira-Bhainder drug-free.

Some youth were recently observed consuming drugs in Pune. Taking serious note of this, CM Shinde directed the police commissioner and Pune municipal commissioner to use bulldozers to dismantle the unauthorized drug-related constructions.

Subsequently, extensive activities in this regard were carried out in the city of Pune.

Also on June 24, Shinde had directed the Pune police commissioner to initiate strict action against illegal pubs and bars in Pune, according to an official statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

He also directed the police commissioner to demolish all structures that are against building norms. "CM Eknath Shinde spoke to the Pune CP and directed him to initiate strict action against illegal pubs and pull down all structures that are against building rules. He also directed the police to initiate fresh action against drug peddlers to make Pune a drug-free city," an official statement said.
