New Delhi: Drone industry players on Thursday demanded more favorable policies, incentives and a component ecosystem within the country to promote indigenization in the sector.

According to Statista, the global business intelligence and data platform, the Indian drone market is projected to generate revenue of $27 million by 2024, with a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 5.96 percent between 2024 and 2028.

"At a summit at the Drone International Expo 2024 in Delhi, industry experts today demanded better incentives and more favorable policies that support robust component manufacturing in India for complete indigenization," organizer Nexgen Exhibitions said in a statement. .

The two-day Drone International Expo 2024 starting on Thursday showcases the latest innovations from more than 25 countries, including the UK, US, Israel, Poland, Croatia, UAE, Germany, Canada, Singapore, Brazil, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

"A key area to promote indigenization of the industry is to support it by creating a conducive growth environment for manufacturing indigenous technology and components in India. We need more investments in R&D of flight controllers, motors, batteries and other components. " said M Sundararaj, CEO of drone manufacturing company Infinity Arsenal Pvt Ltd.

Incentivizing technology is the key and the government should create more incubation and technology centers in the drone segment, said G Ravi Chand, vice-president of Dhaksha Drones.

Flying drones is not a skill that is easily available in the Indian market and we need more experts in this field.

"It takes a lot of skill when people fly complex drones. So I think the government should look at how to make that field much more lucrative for pilots and aspiring pilots who want to get into this industry," said a spokesperson for ideaForge.

More than 200 domestic and international drone manufacturers will showcase their product innovations at the exhibition.

The drone exhibition, which coincides with the International Police Exhibition 2024, also highlights innovative solutions from leading manufacturers, emphasizing advances in surveillance and long-duration capabilities, the event organizer said in the statement.

Modern terrorist activities are increasingly sophisticated and use asymmetric tactics that pose significant challenges to traditional security measures, according to the statement.

The International Police Expo 2024 and International Drone Expo aim to overcome these traditional security challenges by modernizing India's counter-terrorism and law enforcement capabilities with the help of cutting-edge drone technologies.

Integrating advanced technologies into counterterrorism and law enforcement capabilities can proactively address security vulnerabilities, ensuring a robust and dynamic response to terrorism, he added.
