Acting on input, DRI officials detained four suspects (passengers) coming from Dubai to Bhubaneswar at BPIA on May 6.

During interrogation and investigation, the officials came to know that all four had tried to smuggle gold by hiding it in the form of a paste in their rectum.

"As a result of the investigation, a total of 12 capsules containing the rounds were recovered from the four passengers. As a result of heat treatment of the contraband, the compound was separated and gold weighing 3.77 kg was recovered, worth Rs 2.79 crore," the DRI source said. "

Later, DRI officials seized the smuggled gold and arrested the four accused passengers under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
