New Delhi [India], Seeking to give top priority to expanding the country's defense technology base, DRDO reforms have been included in the government's 100-DA agenda after the elections. The government had formed a committee with retired military officers. Industry experts, led by a top scientist, suggested reforming the structure of the research agency to make it more output-oriented and boost a defense industrial and technological base in the country. Defense Research and Development Organization headed by Dr. Sameer V Kamat made presentations. There will be further progress for the government at the senior level and only after the formation of the new government."DRDO reforms will continue and have now been made a part of the 100-day agenda of the government. Presentations have been made at the senior level and DRDO has been asked to work on it," top defense officials told ANI. DRDO has also constituted an internal committee to carry forward the reforms in the area where there is an agreement between the Reforms Committee and DRDO, the said areas or points where disagreements between the two parties will be resolved later, he said. DRDO is also working towards implementing reforms and focusing on core military technology sector laboratories like defense institutes for high altitude research. (DIHAR) and similar laboratories will be offered to local state governments to continue their work and help in local development. The DRDO Reforms Committee had suggested setting up a Defense Technology Commission which would look after major technology development projects. The Karega Committee had also suggested the creation of two Secretary posts with different roles in the DRD, which are now being performed by a single officer. Time bound implementation was also suggested. He suggested to the Committee a larger role for the Chief of Defense Staff in the Executive Committee of the proposed Technology Commission.
