New Delhi, India's premier defense research organization DRDO has awarded seven new projects to private entities to develop key military assets, including underwater-launched unmanned aerial vehicles and long-range remotely operated systems.

The projects were approved under the Ministry of Defense's Technology Development Fund scheme to boost domestic defense manufacturing.

The underwater-launched unmanned aerial vehicle project aims to develop versatile battlefield marine accessories that can be deployed in multiple combat roles, officials said.

The target is part of a broader intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) and maritime domain awareness (MDA) framework, they said.

The project has been awarded to Sagar Defense Engineering Pvt Ltd, Pune, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The other projects are development of ice detection sensors for aircraft, manufacturing of radar signal processors, long-range remotely operated vehicles for detection and neutralization of underwater objects. The long-range remotely operated vehicles will be dual-use systems that will allow detection. , classification, localization and neutralization of underwater objects by keeping key assets away from the suspected operational area, the ministry said.

The work has been awarded to a new company, IROV Technologies Pvt Ltd, Kochi.

The other projects are the development of a radar signal processor with an active antenna array simulator, the development of a timing acquisition and dissemination system based on the Indian regional navigation satellite system and a set of tools simulation of sensors and indigenous scenarios.

The toolkit project involves the development of an indigenous system for training pilots in simulators in realistic scenarios. This will help in complete mission planning and commitment of large forces, the ministry said.

The project has been awarded to startup Oxygen 2 Innovation Pvt Ltd, Noida.

"Giving impetus to Aatmanirbharta, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has awarded seven new projects to industries under the Technology Development Fund scheme for various needs of the armed forces and aerospace and defense sectors," the ministry.

"These project sanctions are a testament to DRDO's continuous effort to encourage industries, especially MSMEs and startups, in the fields of defense and aerospace," he said.

"Indigenous development of these technologies will strengthen the military industrial ecosystem," he said in a statement.
