A day after India won the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final at the Kensington Oval, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said the team will be rewarded with a total cash prize of Rs 125 crore. ,

As per the distribution formula, head coach Dravid and all 15 members of the team were to get Rs 5 crore each, while other support staff including batting coach Vikram Rathore, fielding coach T. Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were to get Rs. Rs 2.5 crore each.

However, according to Hindustan Times report, Dravid refused to take an additional Rs 2.5 crore in his bonus so that it could be clubbed with the rewards given to other support staff.

A BCCI source told the newspaper, "Rahul wanted the same bonus amount (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments. "

Rs 1 crore each to all five members of the selection committee, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, Shiv Sundar Das and S Sharath.

This is not the first example of Dravid taking a stand for equitable distribution of awards. During his tenure as head coach of India's victorious Under-19 World Cup team in 2018, Dravid adopted a stance that was different from the remuneration structure initially proposed.

Initially, it was planned that Dravid would get Rs 50 lakh, while other members of the support staff would get Rs. 20 lakh each. Players had to earn money. As per the proposed formula, Rs 30 lakh for individuals.

However, Dravid refused to accept this distribution, prompting the BCCI to revise the allocation percentage and ensure equal awards for all team members.
