New Delhi [India] The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has suggested corporates to set up manufacturing-focused incubators to help startups. DPIIT said it is taking various measures to encourage the startup ecosystem and the industry at large to promote innovation in manufacturing. Emphasizing the need to provide support to startups in the manufacturing sector by supporting and collaborating with startups and developing manufacturing incubators, DPIIT said, “Startups need support from multiple ecosystem stakeholders to grow and scale up.” Manufacturing-focused incubators can be one of the most important drivers of support for startups because they provide the necessary pilot, scaling and manufacturing facilities that can provide plug-and-play options to product startups, high Capital expenditure can reduce the burden of investment, it said “All parts of the startup ecosystem can come together to support manufacturing startups through the creation of more manufacturing incubators, which will support the growth of the nation,” the DPIIT said in the release. will nurture innovation and development of India's overall manufacturing capabilities." DPIIT suggested that corporates can institutionalize in-house incubators and incubation programs in a number of ways to help these startups.

DPIIT said eligible institutions can avail help from government initiatives to support the startup ecosystem, Startup India Initiative, Atal Incubation Center (AIC), Nation Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovation (NIDHI), Technolog Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs. (TIDE), Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), and Innovation for Defense Excellence (iDEX), are some of the major government initiatives to promote the startup ecosystem in the country.
