CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK on Saturday accused the National Testing Agency of tarnishing the sanctity of NEET and accused the BJP-led government at the Center of being a 'spectator' and supporting coaching centers that earn crores of rupees. . Once again, the DMK demanded cancellation of the national examination, saying that this alone would protect the sanctity of the education sector.

Referring to the Center telling the Supreme Court a few days ago that grace marks of 1,563 students would be cancelled, DMK's Tamil mouthpiece 'Murasoli' said the BJP government would not have done so if the matter had not gone to the apex court. The daily alleged in its June 15 editorial that many irregularities were taking place in NEET in the last few years and the BJP government did not pay attention to it.

Irregularities and scams that were 'secret' in the conduct of NEET till now have come to the fore 'openly' this year. To hide this, the exam results which were scheduled to be released on June 14, were postponed to June 4, when the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared. However, the scam was exposed. "We have heard about grace marks, it will be one or two marks. But, how can 70 and 80 marks be called grace marks? NTA gave full marks and this is a national injustice." The BJP government remained the 'slave' of the coaching centers earning crores every month and it established 'corporate rule' in the education sector also.

Since the beginning, major political parties including Tamil Nadu and DMK have been opposing NEET and the Assembly passed a bill to exempt the state from the ambit of the examination and it was sent to the Center for the President's assent.“We (the state) have requested to scrap NEET or exempt Tamil Nadu from the exam.” However, the BJP government dismissed the staunch protests as merely political.

However, today, the students themselves have realized the 'fraudulent' aspects and the affected students have approached the apex court with a petition to cancel the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test of May 5, 2024 and take stronger measures to stop the irregularities. demanded.

"The Supreme Court itself said that the sanctity of NEET-UG has been affected and 'who spoiled the sanctity? It was the National Testing Agency and the BJP government at the Center remained a spectator.'

Overall, only abolishing NEET would be a permanent and fair solution to this problem and only then the sanctity of the education sector can be protected. On behalf of the NTA and the Centre, the same lawyers appeared before the apex court and this made it clear that there is no difference in the stand between the agency and the Central government. Also, the Center assisted the agency in its decisions. Even after the Grace Mark scam was exposed, the Central Government has not realized its mistake.

Referring to the re-examination on June 23 for students whose grace marks were withdrawn, the Dravidian party wondered about the nature of the result of the re-conducted examination on a daily basis. “See how they (centres/agencies) argue (in court) for coaching centers earning crores."
