Thane: An FIR has been registered against a former corporator and four of his family members in Maharashtra's Thane district on charges of possessing assets worth Rs 2.14 crore disproportionate to known sources of income, the ACB said on Tuesday.

The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigated the 64-year-old's income during his tenure as corporator of Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation between 1985 and October 2021.

Thane ACB Inspector Swapnil Juikar said in a release that it was found that the man and his family members had acquired unaccounted wealth worth Rs 2,14,33,734.

The ACB said it is suspected that the former councilor and his family misused their position to acquire these properties through illegal means.

Based on a complaint by the ACB, the Bhiwandi Town police on Monday registered an FIR under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the former councilor, his wife and three children, the release said.
