Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said disciplinary action has been taken against negligent officials in the incident of forest personnel getting injured due to forest fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Chief Minister said that the Divisional Forest Officer (Almora) and Forest Conservator Officer (North Kumaon) have been suspended for negligence in the works conducted for forest fire control and the Chief Conservator of Forests (Kumaon) has been attached to the headquarters.

Dhami said that the government is continuously working seriously to control forest fires. All officers and personnel of the department should ensure compliance with the instructions issued with full alertness.

Yesterday, a vehicle in which forest personnel were traveling inside the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary was caught in a forest fire. Four forest personnel died, while four forest personnel sustained burn injuries and were airlifted and admitted to Haldwani Hospital.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday expressed grief over the death of four forest workers.

Addressing the gathering, the Congress leader said, “The news of the death of four workers and injuries to many others while extinguishing the forest fire in Almora, Uttarakhand is extremely saddening.I pray to God for everyone. I urge the state government to provide compensation and assistance to the affected families at all possible levels.”

Priyanka Gandhi said, "This incident is part of a larger crisis as forests in Uttarakhand have been burning for several months, destroying hundreds of hectares of land."

Chief Minister Dhami said that orders have been given to investigate the incident and take action against the culprits.

Forest officials said the fire that broke out in Binsar in Almora district turned fatal due to strong winds.Forest Department Ranger Manoj Sanwal said that when the team of eight fire fighters reached the spot at around 3 pm on Thursday afternoon, the fire increased significantly.
