New Delhi: Indian track athlete KM Diksha created a new national record in the women's 1500m event, while Avinash Sable finished second in the men's 5000m event at the 10th Sound Running Track Fest in Los Angeles.

25-year-old Diksha clocked 4:04.78 to finish third in the final on Saturday, bettering the previous record of 4:05.39 set by Harmilan Bains at the National Open Athletics Championships in Warangal in 2021.

Diksha's previous personal best was 4:06.07 set in the final of the National Inter-State Athletics Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in 2023, where she defeated Bains to win the gold medal.

Diksha, a resident of Amroha, UP, has been training under the guidance of coach SK Prasad at MP Athletics Academy for the last five years.

Parul Chaudhary finished fifth in women's 5000 meters by running 15:10.69 seconds. Paru missed out on improving her national record while compatriot Ankit finished 10th with a timing of 15:28.88.

Sable finished second in the men's 5000 m with a time of 13:20.37, not his 3000 m steeplechase event, and in the same event, Gulveer Singh clocked 13:31.95.

Sable's national record time for 5000 meters is 13:19.30.

In the men's 10000 meters race, Karthik Kumar completed the last lap in 62 seconds, but this could only give him second place. He achieved a time of 28:07.66 seconds.

It is a World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level competition.
