“The digital travel technology infrastructure is being scaled up with the intention of expanding coverage from 15 airports to 28 airports by the end of April 2024,” the foundation said in a detailed statement.

Based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), Digi Yatra provides contactless, seamless movement of passengers across various checkpoints at airports.

Emphasizing that Digi Yatra is built on the concept of self-sovereign identity, the Foundation said that the Digi Yatra Central Ecosystem (DYCE) never stores any ID credential data, including identity proofs, in any central repository. Anywhere there is personally identifiable information (PIL).

Earlier this week, there were reports raising concerns about the privacy of data shared with Digi Travel in relation to former vendor Datavolve, which has come under scrutiny.

Foundation CEO Suresh Khadakbhavi said that DataEvolve has been completely removed from the Digi Yatra ecosystem.

Noting that the personal data of 3.3 million Indian users and the Digi Yatra app is absolutely safe, the statement said that the Foundation or any service provider cannot access user data as all PILs are stored only on the user's mobile device in Digi Yatra. are stored. App, accessible only to the user.

The old data will remain on the user's mobile device, and once the app is uninstalled or deleted, credential data and travel history will also be deleted by default.Explaining the process, the Foundation said that when the user shares the I credentials and boarding pass at the origin airport (verifier) ​​and travels through the airport, the data received by the airport is cleared from the airport system within 24 hours of the flight. Digi Yatra holds the mandatory CERT-In audit certificate, which is required for DYCE Backbone, Mobile App and Airport Verifiers as per the policies of Ministry of Civil Aviation.

According to the foundation, the latest audit was conducted in January, which clearly confirmed that Digi Yatra does not store PIL.
