MUMBAI: Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Friday introduced biometric registration kiosks for faster immigration processing, which will be operated under the direct supervision of the Bureau of Immigration (BOI).

DIAL said five kiosks are currently operational at the international arrivals pier of the airport and it plans to add five more soon.

This extension will further speed up the immigration process for incoming travellers.

DIAL said in a statement that the specially designed kiosks for foreign nationals visiting India with visas, where biometric information was not collected during the application process, were installed for the first time at any airport in the country. Are.

The private airport operator said that before implementing this new system, visa-holding passengers coming to Delhi without biometric registration were required to use designated immigration counters, resulting in an average wait of 4-5 minutes per passenger.

During peak hours, these queues may cause even greater delays, it said, adding that after biometric registration at the kiosk, the time taken by the immigration agent/officer at the counter will be reduced to more than half, as the passenger enters India. Are entering. E-Visa holders can now complete their biometric registration on arrival at the kiosk and then proceed to any immigration counter for entry.

“The introduction of these biometric registration kiosks is one of the first achievements achieved by Delhi Airport.
