The film is backed by Kalanithi Maran under the production banner of Sun Pictures. It stars Dhanush in the lead role.
SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Sudeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and Saravanan also feature in the cast of "Rayana".
The music and background score of the film is composed by A. R. Rahman. This is the composer's fourth collaboration with Dhanush after "Raanjhanaa", "Marion" and "Atrangi Re".
