New Delhi: Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar will on Sunday inaugurate the 'Prerna Sthal', which will house all the statues of freedom fighters and other leaders that were earlier installed at various places in the Parliament complex.

An official statement said all members of Parliament have been invited to the event, where outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other dignitaries will also be present.

While the Congress has criticized the decision to remove the statues from their current location, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has said that their installation at different locations has made it difficult for visitors to view them properly.

“The Inspiration Site has been created so that dignitaries and other visitors to the Parliament House complex can easily view and pay homage to these statues at one place.

"An action plan has been drawn up to bring the life stories and messages of these great Indians to the visitors through new technology," it said.

The Congress has claimed that the idea behind shifting the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji, among others, is to ensure that they are not in any prominent place where MPs can hold peaceful and democratic protests.

Lok Sabha Secretariat said that it is noteworthy that even before this, during the construction work of the new Parliament building, the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Nehru and Chaudhary Devi Lal were shifted to other places in the complex.

It said lawns and gardens have been created around the statues in the 'Prerna Sthal' so that visitors can easily pay tribute to them and take inspiration from their lives through QR codes.
