New Delhi [India], Marking the eighth day of Navratri, early morning 'aarti' was performed at the Jhandewalan temple in Delhi on Tuesday, with people seen standing in queues, waiting patiently for a chance to offer prayers. Mantras were chanted by the priests and sacred songs were played in the temple premises Chaitra Navratri, or Vasant Navratri, is celebrated during the spring season in India and is considered an important nine-day festival for the Hindu community. Mother Mahagauri is worshiped during Navratri. The goddess has four hands and holds a trident and damru, riding on a bull. Goddess Mahagauri's complexion is white and bright like the moon, she wears white clothes and rides a bull, that is why she is known by the names Shwetambardhar and Vrisharudha respectively. This year, the nine-day long Navratri festival, started on April 9 and will end on April 17. During this period, people worship Goddess Durga and her nine forms, known as Navadurga. The nine-day festival, also known as Ram Navratri, ends on Ram Navami, the birthday of Lord Ram. During Chaitra Navratri, people fast and worship Goddess Durga. They also invoke Ghatasthapana, the goddess Shakti, which is an important ritual followed during this period. Navratri also celebrates peace in the form of Mahagauri Mata.
