New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed the development of school textbooks under the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) at a meeting here on Thursday.

The meeting came against the backdrop of a delay in the production of Class 6 textbooks that were supposed to be taught from April and which are yet to hit the market.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had earlier announced that new textbooks for classes 3 and 6 will be introduced from the academic session 2024-25.

"For the academic year 2024-25, new and attractive textbooks will be introduced in classes 3 and 6. Textbook development work is in the final phase and nine textbooks for grades 3 and 6 are already The remaining eight will be available very soon," said a senior Education Ministry official.

The NCERT initially aimed to publish the new textbooks based on NCF 2023 only for classes 3 and 6 this year. While textbooks for Class 3 are available in the market, those for Class 6 have been delayed.

It was only this week that the NCERT released new textbooks in English and Hindi for Class 6 amid the academic session. Textbooks for the remaining subjects such as social studies, science and mathematics are not yet ready and schools have been asked to teach Class 6 students in a bridging program until then.

"NEP 2020 aims to provide high-quality and affordable textbooks to make learning enjoyable and stress-free for better results. NCERT is building new textbooks for classes 1 to 12 to fully meet the provisions of the National Education Policy," said the official.

The official informed that the minister made a detailed review of the progress of development of NCERT textbook with secretary school education, director NCERT and chairman Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
