Agartala: Despite his landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday expressed his strong desire to return as the Chief Minister of Tripura.

However, everything depends on the party, said Deb, who guided the BJP to power in Tripura by ending 25-year-long communist rule in 2018 and became the chief minister before being suddenly removed four years later.

After this, Manik Saha took charge and even after the 2023 assembly elections, he remains at the helm of the BJP-led government in the state.

Deb, currently a Rajya Sabha MP, defeated her rival Ashish Kumar Saha of Congress from West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency by over six lakh votes.

"The Chief Minister is the head of the state while a Union Minister works under the Prime Minister. I would love to return to state politics. And, it will not be less than the post of Chief Minister. I have served as the head of the state government. Ka, no minister,” he said.

“But the party is the final authority,” he said.
