He also directed the officials to conduct awareness programs by running door-to-door campaigns in the capital Bengaluru.

Rao said 6,187 positive cases of dengue have been reported in the state, while six people have died since January.

He said cases have also been reported from Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru, Haveri, Chitradurga, Shivamogga and Dakshina Kannada districts.

“Health officials have been directed to fix the prices for private hospitals for testing. Deaths can be prevented only when dengue is detected in its early stages. Officials have been directed to take action and remain alert in this regard,” Minister Rao said.

He said that Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) officials and ASHA workers should conduct door-to-door campaigns in Bengaluru and create awareness about dengue in Bengaluru.

“Medical officers of primary health units in rural areas should make mandatory visits to schools and make children aware about dengue. Science teachers have already been trained regarding destruction of larvae and dengue,” the minister said.

He said that the government will also run a campaign on dengue prevention on Friday.
